Live Borders invites submissions from individuals and organisations to produce a Feasibility Study for a Facilities led Creative Hub in the Scottish Borders – working title ‘THE MILL’.
INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
Live Borders is the sports, leisure and cultural trust for the Scottish Borders, established in April 2016 through a merger of Borders Sport and Leisure Trust and Scottish Borders Council’s Cultural Services.
CABN (Creative Arts Business Network) is part of the Creative Communities Team, Live Borders and develops the professional creative sector in the Scottish Borders through a diverse programme of support, and seeks to strengthen the sector by working towards longer term strategic goals.
In July 2013 CABN developed a proposal for a Printmaking Workshop in the Scottish Borders with the objective to:
“Establish a Printmaking Workshop & Creative Hub within the Scottish Borders, which will support creative micro-businesses, but also have a range of wider cultural, social and economic impacts.”
The original proposal for a printmaking workshop has been extended to incorporate textile/multi-disciplinary facilities alongside printmaking facilities.
The concept has been informed by the experience and knowledge gained by CABN through providing support to the creative sector, conducting research and working with partners locally and nationally to deliver a range of projects.
Live Borders is currently conducting a Creative Spaces & Facilities Survey on-line. The findings of this survey will feed into the feasibility work and will inform a needs analysis of facilities. Live Borders is supporting the development of a feasibility study to understand options, delivery methods and business case.
The purpose of the brief is to test the proof of concept and if demand is identified a more detailed and up to date business case for a Printmaking and Textile Facilities Hub would be produced.

We anticipate that this project can be completed in 8 weeks from the inception meeting. There is a budget of £8,000 available for this work.
