After attending Hawick High School I spent three years as an apprentice joiner, much of what I learned then I still use now.
Many years later, and after a long spell in higher education, I found myself going back to 'the tools' and trying some new ideas out.
From simply picking up interesting pieces of wood and shaping them I slowly learned my art.
I take much of my inspiration from the Trees and Woodlands we have here in the Scottish Borders and
try to express that enjoyment and explore the possibilities our natural heritage offers us.
Using locally found or sourced hardwoods such as Elm, Ash, Beech and Oak I create a variety of functional or abstract pieces.
Many of the items are simply created through a process of working with the wood and letting it's natural shapes and lines suggest the final outcome. This range includes bookends, bowls, coffee tables, mirror frames and sculpture. However, the versatility and uniqueness of wood can lend itself to nearly anything the imagination will allow.
